COLCHESTER — The Colchester Police Department arrested a man on Thursday, March 8, for violating conditions of release and resisting arrest.

At approximately 11:34 a.m., an officer on patrol observed Denis St. Onge, 38, of Colchester, standing with an individual he was prohibited from contacting under court-ordered conditions of release. As the officer approached, St. Onge fled on foot but was apprehended after a chase.

During the arrest, St. Onge actively resisted and attempted to bite the officer and disarm them of their taser.

With the help of citizens passing by, St. Onge was taken into custody and transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for evaluation before being processed at the police department.

St. Onge was lodged at the Northwest Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $500 bail and faces charges of violation of conditions of release, resisting arrest, impeding a public official, and aggravated assault.

The Colchester Police Department was assisted by members of the Essex Police Department, Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department, and St. Michael’s Fire & Rescue. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Colchester Police Department at 802-264-5555.
