Suspect arrested in Northborough armed robbery after woods search

NORTHBOROUGH — A Worcester man was arrested early Friday morning after an armed robbery at the Amazing Intimate Essential Store on Belmont Street and a subsequent search in nearby woods.

Ross Bourgeois, 34, was taken into custody at approximately 3 a.m. after surrendering to police.

He was found hiding in a wooded area near the Wal-Mart on Otis Street, according to the Northborough Police Department.

The incident began at around 10:30 p.m. on March 7 when police responded to the reported armed robbery.

An officer spotted a man matching the suspect’s description walking on Lawrence Street, but the man fled into the woods despite commands to stop.

Police from Northborough, Westborough, Shrewsbury, and the Massachusetts State Police established a perimeter in the area of Rt. 9 and Lawrence Street.

Drone units from the Northborough and Westborough Police Departments, as well as the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC), were used to locate the suspect.

Negotiations were attempted by officers at the perimeter, but the suspect refused to comply.

The Special Tactical Operations Team (STOP) from the Massachusetts State Police, along with negotiators, responded to the scene to continue negotiations.

Upon his arrest, Bourgeois was found in possession of a replica firearm and a double-edged knife.

He was transported to the hospital by the Northborough Fire Department for examination and is scheduled to be arraigned later Friday morning.

Bourgeois faces charges of armed robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, breach of the peace, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
