HYANNIS — Justin Moreira, 30, was arrested after a seven-hour armed standoff with police at a home on St. Francis Circle on Wednesday, March 6.

The incident began around 7:41 a.m. when Moreira allegedly held his mother at knifepoint.

Family members were safely evacuated, but Moreira remained inside, periodically firing at police with rifles and handguns.

Negotiation attempts and less-lethal tactics proved unsuccessful.

Moreira was finally taken into custody uninjured after a specialized vehicle with a demolition tool was used to force him out of the residence.

He faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and firearms offenses.
