Fire at Norfolk housing authority displaces 1, no injuries reported

NORFOLK — Firefighters extinguished a fire in a second-floor unit of the Norfolk Housing Authority at 33 Rockwood Road on Wednesday, March 6 at approximately 10:20 a.m.

The fire, believed to be caused by smoking materials, was contained to one unit and brought under control within 10 minutes.

Residents safely evacuated before first responders arrived, and no injuries were reported.

One resident was displaced and is being assisted by family and friends.

The Norfolk Fire Department reminds residents to fully extinguish smoking materials and use a heavy ashtray when smoking.
