Rupert man killed in single-vehicle rollover

RUPERT — A 32-year-old Rupert man died when his truck veered off Kent Hollow Road, struck a tree, and rolled into a river on Saturday, March 4.

Skyler N. Staples was traveling east on Kent Hollow Road when his 2009 Nissan Frontier left the roadway for unknown reasons.

The truck struck a tree and rolled down an embankment, coming to rest on its side in the river.

Staples, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Salem, NY, and Granville, NY, rescue squads, the Rupert Fire Department, and Monarch Towing assisted Vermont State Police at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
