Woman arrested for DUI, negligent operation in Berlin

BERLIN — A 52-year-old Northfield woman was arrested late Saturday night on charges of driving under the influence of drugs and negligent operation after she was caught driving the wrong way on a major highway.

Vermont State Troopers were on patrol at around 11 p.m. when they spotted a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on Route 62 near the exit 7 off-ramps to Interstate 89 in Berlin.

Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Jean Smith, the troopers observed signs of impairment.

Smith was taken into custody under suspicion of DUI.

After her arrest, she was released with a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court – Criminal Division on April 28 at 8:30 a.m.
