Newton man arrested on multiple sexual assault charges

NEWTON — After an extensive investigation, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, Newton Police Department, and Sandown Police Department, arrested 67-year-old John Bird on Monday.

Bird, a resident of Newton, is being held without bail at the Rockingham County Jail facing multiple charges including 11 counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, 17 counts of felonious sexual assault, 10 counts of indecent exposure, and 10 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The Child Advocacy Center of Rockingham County provided assistance throughout the investigation.

Officials have indicated that additional charges against Bird may be announced as the investigation progresses.
