NEW BEDFORD — A Brockton juvenile has been arrested as a second suspect in the shooting that took place near a convenience store in New Bedford last month, authorities said Thursday.

The incident, which occurred on Feb. 15 in the parking lot of a shop on Brock Avenue, fortunately resulted in no injuries.

However, the altercation led to the discharge of a firearm within a close proximity to the building.

Detective Jessica Niccoli, who is leading the investigation, previously arrested 18-year-old Danielson Varela in connection with the shooting.

Her ongoing investigation has now resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old juvenile from Brockton.

The juvenile, whose name has not been released due to age, was already wanted on a warrant from Plymouth County for an unrelated open firearm case.

The new charges against the juvenile include discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery by firearm, and destruction of property.

The New Bedford Police Department is seeking any additional information regarding the incident.
