SPRINGFIELD — A 43-year-old man was arrested Thursday night at a local McDonald’s drive-thru on suspicion of drug impairment and violating a court order, according to police.

Springfield police responded to a call at 8:58 p.m. on Feb. 29 regarding a possible impaired driver at the fast-food restaurant’s service window.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Ernest C. Lamphere in his vehicle and observed signs of impairment.

During the investigation, it was also determined that Lamphere was allegedly in breach of a Relief From Abuse Order.

Further examination led to the seizure of suspected heroin from Lamphere.

The Springfield Police Department, with the assistance of the Chester and Dover police departments, conducted the arrest.

Lamphere was taken into custody and held at the Southern State Correctional Facility.

A judge set bail, and Lamphere has been cited to appear at the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit on March 1.

The investigation into the incident remains active.
