Shaftsbury hit-and-run involving stolen vehicle under investigation

SHAFTSBURY — A hit-and-run incident that resulted in property damage is currently under investigation after a car crashed into a parked tractor on Vermont Route 67 W, police said.

The Vermont State Police were called to the scene at 8:01 a.m. on March 3, where they found a silver 2012 Suzuki SX4 had collided with a tractor belonging to 61-year-old Richard Rice of Shaftsbury.

The vehicle was discovered abandoned in Rice’s yard, and no individuals were present when authorities arrived.

Investigation by the troopers indicated that the car, which was traveling westbound from North Bennington toward the New York state line, had also been reported stolen the previous night from the Price Chopper parking lot in Bennington.

Authorities are actively seeking information related to the incident and urge anyone with knowledge to contact the Vermont State Police Shaftsbury Barracks at 802-442-5421 Ext. 8.
