MANSFIELD — A man was arrested Friday following a series of events that began with a domestic assault and escalated to custodial kidnapping and a police chase, ending with his vehicle stopped in Foxborough.

The Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communication Center received 911 calls around 12:19 p.m. from the vicinity of a Chauncy Street business, reporting a disturbance.

Witnesses described a suspect fleeing the scene with a child, taken from its mother, and provided a description of the vehicle and direction of travel.

Officers from Mansfield and Foxborough, including Mansfield Officer Michael Fitzgerald and K-9 Ronan, quickly located and pursued the suspect’s vehicle.

Despite the activation of emergency lights and siren, the suspect continued driving and failed to stop, leading police on a chase along Rt. 106 and Rt. 140.

The situation concluded at the intersection of Rt. 140 and Forbes Blvd. in Foxborough, where the vehicle came to a stop.

Despite the operator’s initial refusal to exit the vehicle and subsequent resistance to arrest, officers managed to secure him after deploying a taser twice.

The man faces charges including failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, custodial kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, disorderly conduct, domestic assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

He is being held on $5,000 bail.

The child, who was asleep and unharmed in the vehicle’s rear seat during the incident, was safely reunited with the mother.
