Two injured in head-on collision in Whiting

WHITING — A two-vehicle crash on Shoreham Whiting Road near the intersection with VT Route 30 left both drivers with moderate injuries early Thursday morning.

At approximately 7:39 a.m., troopers were called to the scene where a 2011 Ford F-150, driven by David Fernandez, 28, of Proctor, was traveling west and attempted to turn left into a private driveway.

Fernandez failed to yield to an oncoming 2016 Chevy Sonic, operated by Joan Litch, 70, of Whiting, traveling east.

The vehicles collided head-on, causing both to come to uncontrolled rests off the eastbound lane.

According to the authorities, Fernandez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, while Litch was.

Both vehicles were totaled and the drivers were transported to Porter Medical Center by ambulance with suspected moderate-level injuries.

Middlebury EMS and the Whiting Fire Department provided assistance at the scene.

The clear weather and dry road conditions were noted at the time of the incident.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
