Bullet found at Burke Town School, police investigating incident

BURKE — Vermont State Police were called to the Burke Town School at approximately 11:14 a.m. on Feb. 28 after receiving reports of a suspicious incident.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a bullet that had penetrated a wall of the school building and lodged itself in a bookshelf.

School staff believe the incident could have occurred at any point from August last year up until the day the bullet was found.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the bullet was fired from a muzzleloader and originated from a significant distance away from the school.

Investigators have determined that there is no indication of a malicious intent behind the shot.

Vermont State Police are appealing to the public for any information related to the event.
