BOSTON — Authorities from the Boston Police Fugitive Task Force arrested a local man Wednesday on charges related to a rental scam that targeted users on Facebook Marketplace.

At 4:55 p.m., Bruno Vieira Ferreira, 23, was detained by officers and charged with Larceny Over $1200 By False Pretense.

The arrest occurred on Exeter St. after an investigation into Ferreira’s activities.

Ferreira allegedly deceived multiple victims by advertising a room for rent on Facebook Marketplace.

He is accused of collecting payments for the room, which he continued to occupy despite receiving eviction notices from the rental company.

After taking the money, Ferreira reportedly provided various excuses for why the room was not available or stopped communicating with the victims.

In one instance, Ferreira is said to have offered a key to the room to a victim, further perpetuating the fraudulent scheme.

The diligent work of detectives led to the issuance of a warrant for Ferreira’s arrest.

Ferreira is expected to be arraigned at Dorchester District Court, where he will face the charges brought against him for the alleged scam.
