Middleborough man killed in single-vehicle crash

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Police Chief Joseph Perkins and Fire Chief Owen Thompson reported a fatal single-vehicle accident on Thompson Street (Route 105) that claimed the life of a 66-year-old Middleborough man Sunday afternoon.

Middleborough Police and Fire Departments received a call about the crash near the intersection of Thompson Street and Plain Street at around 12:30 p.m. Emergency personnel arrived to find the man’s vehicle had collided with a tree.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thompson Street is closed to all traffic between Plain Street and Precinct Street as the investigation continues.

Authorities are advising motorists to find alternative routes.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by Middleborough Police with support from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Crime Prevention and Control Unit.
