BOSTON — Officers from the Anti-Crime Unit of District C-6 in South Boston arrested a man on drug trafficking charges Tuesday night after observing a suspicious gathering on Southampton Street.

At approximately 8:18 p.m., law enforcement officials encountered Jorge Santiago Collazo, 31, of Boston, amidst a large group of individuals near 895 Massachusetts Avenue, an area known for quality of life issues and clearly marked with “No Trespassing or loitering” signs.

As officers approached, the group dispersed, and Collazo attempted to walk away.

The officers called for the group to halt and provide identification.

During the incident, a black bag was spotted on the ground in the vicinity of where Collazo had been standing.

The bag was found to contain around twelve individually wrapped packets of a brown powdery substance, later confirmed to be about 13 grams of fentanyl.

Collazo was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with trafficking of class A drugs and trespassing.

He is scheduled for arraignment at Roxbury District Court.
