Montpelier man arrested for felony domestic assault

MONTPELIER — A local man was taken into custody on charges of felony domestic assault following a late-night incident on Cummings Street.

Montpelier Police Department responded to a complaint at 21 Cummings Street at 9:19 p.m. on Feb. 21.

On arrival, officers were informed that Charles Smith, 46, had allegedly committed domestic assault.

Smith, who has two prior convictions for the same offense, was arrested and processed at the Montpelier Police Department.

A judge set bail at $5,000 during a post-arrest hearing.

Following the bail hearing, Smith was lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury, awaiting arraignment set for Feb. 22.

The Montpelier Police Department has provided no further details on the incident.
