Calais couple charged with domestic assault, cruelty to a child

CALAIS — In a distressing incident on Feb. 16, Vermont State Police responded to a report of a juvenile with assault-related injuries at an emergency room.

Troopers from the Berlin Barracks were notified at about 2:47 p.m. that a child had suffered bodily harm.

The subsequent inquiry led authorities to identify Paul Grant Jr., 34, and Kaitlynn Grant, 30, both residents of Calais, as the individuals responsible for inflicting the injuries on a juvenile family member.

The Grants were later located and cooperated with the troopers at the Berlin Barracks.

Following their arrest, they were released with citations and are scheduled to appear in court to face charges of domestic assault and cruelty to a child.

To protect the identity of the victim, no further details regarding the juvenile have been released, adhering to the policies of the Vermont State Police regarding cases of sexual assault or domestic violence.
