SEARSBURG — A New York woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning on Vermont Route 9 near Lind Ln.

At approximately 5:35 a.m., Vermont State Police responded to reports of a head-on collision where one driver was reportedly unconscious.

Upon arrival, authorities found that a 2019 Jeep Cherokee and a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta had sustained heavy front-end damage.

The Jeep, driven by Elizabeth Dubacher, 29, of Petersburg, NY, was traveling westbound and attempted to pass a tractor-trailer.

During this maneuver, the Jeep entered the eastbound lane and collided with the Volkswagen, driven by Tessa Viall, 40, of Hoosick Falls, NY.

Both Dubacher and Viall were wearing seat belts and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

They were transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for treatment.

While at the hospital, indicators of impairment were observed in Dubacher, and she was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence.

After processing at the Shaftsbury Barracks, she was released on citation to a sober party.

The Wilmington Fire Department, Wilmington Police Department, and Deerfield Valley Rescue assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and Dubacher is expected to appear in court to answer to the DUI charge at a later date.
