NASHUA — A two-vehicle crash on the F.E. Everett Turnpike South near Exit 1 resulted in a DUI arrest on Feb. 15 at approximately 3:40 p.m.

New Hampshire State Police Trooper Evan Puopolo, along with Nashua Fire and EMS and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, responded to the incident involving a 2011 BMW 3-Series driven by James Eppolito, 23, of Nashua, and a 2019 Lexus RX450H operated by Horng Ay, 62, of Lowell, Massachusetts.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and blocked all travel lanes, causing the turnpike to be shut down for around 40 minutes.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Eppolito was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control, hitting a guardrail and then colliding with Ay’s Lexus.

Eppolito was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Reckless Driving after a roadside investigation.

He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Nashua District Court in March.

The occupants of the Lexus were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua with minor injuries.

Eppolito refused medical care.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash and are seeking witnesses.
