Man arrested for felony retail theft at Montpelier hardware store

MONTPELIER — A Montpelier man was arrested on charges of felony retail theft after allegedly stealing from a local hardware store, the Montpelier Police Department reported.

Zackary T. Plante, 33, of St. Johnsbury, was apprehended on Feb. 13 after police responded to a theft report at Aubuchon Hardware at approximately 8:25 a.m.

According to authorities, Plante took a cart full of expensive products and left the store without paying.

Quick action by store staff and witnesses allowed MPD officers to locate and arrest Plante shortly after the incident.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Montpelier Police Department for processing.

Plante was released with a citation and is scheduled to appear in the Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on March 28 at 8:30 a.m. for his arraignment.

The Montpelier Police Department has not released any additional information regarding the theft.
