FITCHBURG — A 20-year-old Worcester man was arrested and charged with felony vandalism after a series of graffiti incidents in Fitchburg, police said.

Eamon Durkan is accused of defacing multiple public and private properties across the city, according to a statement released by the Fitchburg Police Department.

Durkan faces charges of felony vandalism, tagging, and trespassing.

The arrest followed an investigation by the Fitchburg Patrol Division and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, which received significant assistance from local community members.

The department expressed gratitude for the tips and information provided by residents, which played a crucial role in apprehending the suspect.

The city is taking further action to combat graffiti through its Neighborhood Improvement through Code Enforcement (NICE) task force.

The task force aims to address issues such as graffiti, which negatively impacts the city’s visual landscape and economic development efforts.

In addition to law enforcement efforts, Fitchburg officials are seeking to help property owners remove existing graffiti and prevent future incidents.

The public is encouraged to report graffiti locations for cleanup on www.seeclickfix.com or by emailing the mayor’s office at [email protected].

Fitchburg Police continue to urge anyone with information about graffiti vandalism or other criminal activities to contact them at 978-345-4355 or to leave an anonymous tip online at the city’s Police Department website.
