Ossipee man arrested for fatally hitting dog with vehicle

OSSIPEE — An Ossipee man has been arrested after allegedly hitting and killing a Golden Retriever with his pickup truck, police said.

Chief Donald Babbin of the Ossipee Police Department announced the arrest of 76-year-old Timothy Lovely on Thursday.

According to the police, officers responded to reports of a loose dog on Moultonville Road near Ossipee Mountain Road on Feb. 7 at about 12:30 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene claimed an elderly male in a white pickup truck ignored signals to stop for the dog and struck the animal, resulting in its death.

Corporal William French led the investigation that identified Lovely as the driver involved in the incident.

After gathering sufficient evidence, police found probable cause to arrest Lovely on Feb. 15 around 1 p.m.

He faces charges of Conduct After an Accident, a Misdemeanor A under RSA 264:25, and Report of Injury to Dog or Cat, a Violation under RSA 264:31.

Following his arrest, Lovely was released on personal recognizance bail.

He is scheduled to appear before the Ossipee District Court for arraignment on March 19 at 9 a.m.
