MONKTON — A two-vehicle collision on Monkton Road near Owl Mountain Road resulted in minor injuries and both vehicles being totaled early Valentine’s Day morning.

At 8:33 a.m., Vermont State Police were called to the scene where Gage Schrier, 22, from San Francisco, CA, and Ania Mortier, 46, from Lincoln, had collided.

Schrier, traveling north in a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, lost control due to icy road conditions and spun into the southbound lane, striking Mortier’s 2022 Toyota 4Runner head-on.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident, which may have contributed to the minor nature of their injuries.

Schrier was transported to Porter Medical Center, while Mortier was taken to UVM Medical Center for treatment.

Following the crash, Monkton Road was temporarily converted to a single lane, causing minor traffic delays.

The Monkton Volunteer Fire Department, Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, and Bristol Rescue Squad provided assistance at the scene.

Authorities are using this incident to remind drivers of the importance of cautious driving during winter weather conditions.
