Two St. Johnsbury residents arrested on warrants, cocaine possession

ST. JOHNSBURY — In a routine traffic stop on Memorial Drive, Lyndonville Police arrested two individuals from St. Johnsbury on outstanding warrants, and one was additionally charged with cocaine possession.

At approximately 2:17 p.m. on Feb. 13, authorities stopped a vehicle driven by Miranda Chaput, 31, who was discovered to have an active warrant for retail theft in Orleans County with a set bail of $100.

George Phelps, 41, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to be wanted on a felony warrant for counterfeiting and false pretenses issued by the Caledonia Superior Court, with bail set at $1,000.

During the stop, Phelps was also found in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine.

He was arrested and cited to appear in Caledonia Superior Court on July 29 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the drug charge.

Both individuals were taken into custody, and Chaput was issued several Vermont Civil Violation Complaints.

The vehicle involved was impounded as a result of the incident.
