THETFORD — Two drivers sustained suspected minor injuries in a two-vehicle collision on I-91 South near mile marker 83 Friday night, amid thick fog and damp road conditions.

Vermont State Police, along with local fire and rescue squads, responded to the crash at 8:58 p.m. where they found vehicles with significant damage and injured occupants.

Authorities said John Lowell, 21, of Orwell, was driving a 2019 Ford F-150 when he struck the rear of a 2011 Saab 9-4x, operated by Amado Delacruz, 63, of Bloomfield, New Jersey.

The collision was attributed to Lowell approaching too quickly in the foggy conditions, causing him to hit Delacruz’s vehicle.

Following the impact, both vehicles then hit the guardrails before coming to a stop in the left lane of the interstate.

The vehicles sustained considerable damage, with the Saab being totaled and the Ford enduring heavy front-end damage.

Both Lowell and Delacruz, who were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident, were transported by ambulance to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) for evaluation of suspected minor injuries.

The Thetford Fire Department, Upper Valley Ambulance, and Hanover Ambulance assisted the Vermont State Police at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Traffic on I-91 South experienced delays while the scene was cleared and vehicles were removed.
