LEEDS — A Leeds man was arrested on multiple charges including armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, and assault to commit rape after a violent incident on Riverdale Street, police said Thursday.

Michael Hunter, of North Main St., allegedly assaulted a man and woman at knifepoint around 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, before forcing the woman to leave with him.

The West Springfield Police Department (WSPD) and detectives responded quickly to the scene at 1130 Riverdale St. after receiving a report of the assaults.

Following an investigation and gathering of information, law enforcement located Hunter and the abducted woman at a nearby motel.

Upon approaching the rented motel room, officers knocked, and Hunter eventually opened the door after hesitating.

The woman was found unharmed but in a distraught condition inside the room.

Officers discovered two knives on Hunter, one of which matched the description of the weapon used in the assaults and robbery.

Hunter was taken into custody without further incident and now faces multiple serious charges.
