Yarmouth police officer hit by car

WEST YARMOUTH — A Yarmouth Police Traffic Officer, Sean Ryan, was struck by a vehicle while working a detail on Route 28 near Rosemary Lane late Tuesday morning.

Officer Ryan, a 12-year veteran of the department, was in the roadway wearing high-visibility clothing when he was hit.

The 74-year-old male driver from West Yarmouth remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities as the incident was investigated.

Police and fire crews responded to the scene, and Officer Ryan was transported to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he was listed in good condition with multiple injuries.

His family has been notified of the situation.

The Yarmouth Police, with support from the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction unit and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations, are continuing their probe into the crash.

Charges against the driver are pending the investigation’s outcome.

The names of the officer and the vehicle operator had been initially withheld but were later released following the update.
