FERRISBURGH — A Middlebury man was arrested on multiple charges including DUI refusal and leaving the scene of an accident after crashing into a guard rail and fleeing on Feb. 5.

At about 2:31 p.m., Troopers responded to a collision at the intersection of US Route 7 and New Haven Road.

The vehicle in question had left the scene, but was soon located by authorities on N Green Street in Vergennes, sporting significant front-end damage and deployed airbags.

The driver, Michael Winters, 44, exhibited signs of impairment, according to Troopers.

Winters refused to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and, after his arrest, also refused to provide a breath sample at the New Haven Barracks.

Further investigation revealed that Winters was operating the vehicle with a criminally suspended license without the required ignition interlock device.

Winters was released to a sober individual and is cited to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division, to face the charges.
