Tewksbury library theft suspect in custody after turning himself in

TEWKSBURY — A man suspected of stealing from the Tewksbury Public Library on Friday afternoon is now in custody after surrendering to police, authorities said.

Anderson Phao, 26, of 365 East St., was arrested and charged with larceny from a building, breaking into a depository, vandalizing property, and being a common and notorious thief, according to Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus.

The incident occurred on Feb. 2 around 4:30 p.m. when Tewksbury Police were alerted to a theft at the library.

The suspect was reportedly spotted taking the library’s donation box into the restroom, where he stole approximately $50, and was then seen walking south on Main Street.

Phao, identified by authorities as the suspect, turned himself in on the morning of Feb. 4.

He is set to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday.
