RUTLAND — A late-night vehicle pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies culminated in the arrest of a Vermont man after he crashed and fled on foot early this morning.
According to the authorities, the chase began shortly after midnight when officers attempted to stop a vehicle.
The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed at the intersection of Rt 122A and Rt 68.
The driver, identified as Stephen Martin, 35, of Bennington, VT, then fled the scene on foot.
Officers tracked Martin to a nearby property where he had broken into a camper to hide.
Upon discovery, he was taken into custody without further incident.
Martin is facing multiple charges from various departments, including breaking and entering, and failing to stop for police.
It was also revealed that Martin had an outstanding arrest warrant and a suspended Vermont driver’s license.
Currently, Martin is being held at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office on $7500 bail.
An arraignment is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 5.
