St. Johnsbury man arrested on warrant after traffic stop

BARNET — Vermont State Police arrested a man on an outstanding warrant following a traffic stop on Ferguson Road Saturday afternoon.

Troopers pulled over a vehicle reported as suspicious with multiple occupants who had allegedly been fighting.

During the stop, which occurred at 1:37 p.m., police identified one of the passengers as Matthew Cole, 36, of St. Johnsbury.

Cole was found to have an active warrant for contempt of court related to a family court matter from last year.

The warrant was issued in Caledonia County, authorities said.

Following the arrest, Cole was transported to the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury.

He is scheduled to appear at the Caledonia County Superior Court on Monday, Feb. 5, at 12:30 p.m.
