Newport, NH man charged with sexual exploitation of a minor

NEWPORT — A joint investigation by the Newport Police Department and the Weathersfield Police Department into alleged unlawful sexual conduct led to the filing of a criminal complaint against a Newport man for the felony offense of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.

The complaints, which originated in fall, prompted an extensive investigation that revealed the alleged criminal activities crossed into Vermont’s jurisdiction.

The collaborative effort included interviews and the examination of digital forensic evidence, which was then reviewed by the Vermont State’s Attorneys Office.

Timothy Beard, 40, of Newport, NH, was charged following the investigation.

The Vermont State’s Attorneys Office brought forth the charges in Windsor County Criminal Division, and Beard is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 30.

The Vermont State Police Major Crimes Unit, Windsor County Special Investigations Unit, and the Child Advocacy Center of Grafton and Sullivan Counties also provided assistance in this ongoing investigation.

Officials have stated that additional charges are possible as the case progresses.

The authorities are reaching out to the public for further information.
