Wilbraham officer wounded in shooting, suspect exchanges gunfire with police

WILBRAHAM — An officer was seriously injured in a shooting after responding to a domestic incident on Old Carriage Drive at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Wilbraham Police officers were dispatched to the scene following a 911 call about a resident threatening others inside the home.

Upon attempting to make contact with the individuals inside, police were met with gunfire from the sole male occupant.

During the shootout, Officer Cameron Prosperi was hit and sustained serious injuries.

He was quickly transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery and is now reported to be in stable condition.

However, the Wilbraham Police Department indicated that Officer Prosperi faces additional surgeries and an extensive recovery period.

Further details on the incident and the condition of the suspect were not immediately available.
