Manchester police make arrests in December armed robbery case

MANCHESTER — Two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that took place in late December, with charges including firearm offenses, Manchester Police announced.

Malachi Thwaites, 27, and Liston DeSilva, 28, both residents of Manchester, were taken into custody on Jan. 24 and now face felony charges stemming from the incident that occurred on Dec. 29, 2023.

Authorities responded to a call at 279 Second Street regarding an armed robbery.

Dispatchers were on an open line with a female victim who reported the crime and indicated a gun had been fired.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim and a male companion, who reported being robbed at gunpoint by two men near the intersection of Second and Cleveland Streets.

During the robbery, one of the suspects discharged a firearm.

Though no injuries were reported, police recovered shell casings at the scene.

The subsequent investigation led to the identification of Thwaites and DeSilva, resulting in warrants for their arrests.

Both individuals have been charged with Robbery and Criminal Threatening with a Firearm.

In addition, DeSilva faces an additional charge of Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon for his alleged role in firing the weapon during the incident.
