Man dies while snowshoeing at Magic Mountain Ski Area

LONDONDERRY — A 60-year-old man from southern Vermont was pronounced dead after experiencing a medical event while snowshoeing in the back country of the Magic Mountain Ski Area on Saturday evening.

Vermont State Police identified the man as Daniel F. Leiter of Weston.

Authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 27.

Bystanders and the Magic Mountain Ski Patrol attempted lifesaving efforts, but Leiter was pronounced deceased on the scene by Londonderry EMS.

The death investigation began after troopers arrived at the ski area.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, according to the police.

The name of the decedent was released after relatives were notified.

State police have not disclosed further details regarding the medical event that led to Leiter’s collapse.

The incident is currently under review, and no additional information has been made available.
