Barton woman cited for taking vehicle without consent

BARTON — A local woman was charged with operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent late Monday night, authorities said.

Vermont State Police said they received a complaint from Sheryl Smith, 69, of Barton, at approximately 10:31 p.m. on Jan. 29, stating that her vehicle had been stolen from her residence on Barton Orleans Rd.

A Be On the Lookout (BOL) alert was issued for the vehicle.

A short time later, an officer from the Morrisville Police Department conducted a traffic stop in Morristown and identified the driver as Wanda Dean, 57, of Barton.

Dean was cited for the unauthorized use of the vehicle, which was subsequently returned to Smith.

Further details about the incident or any court dates have not been released.
