Barnstable couple sentenced for child abuse

BARNSTABLE — A husband and wife were sentenced on Jan. 26 for child abuse charges in Barnstable Superior Court, with Brian Barnicle receiving a 10-12 year state prison term and Crystale Barnicle sentenced to two and a half years in the House of Correction, followed by supervised probation for both.

The Yarmouth Police Department acknowledged the efforts of the multidisciplinary team that contributed to the investigation’s success.

The team’s members, including partners from various agencies, provided essential support and care to the victims, ensuring a positive outcome.

The department extended special thanks to the Assistant District Attorneys and Victim Witness Assistants from the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office.

Their collaboration with the Yarmouth Police Department’s High Risk/Special Victims Unit was crucial from the initial crime disclosure through the court proceedings.

The investigation was highlighted as victim-centered and trauma-informed, focusing on amplifying the victims’ voices and addressing their needs throughout the judicial process.
