JAY — Vermont State Police reported a motor vehicle accident involving a 2020 GMC Sierra on Vermont Route 242 on Wednesday at approximately 3:13 p.m.,

Eugene Gonzales, 40, of Montgomery, was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, which was totaled after Gonzales lost control, veered off the north side of the road, struck a tree, and rolled the truck onto its side.

Gonzales, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to North Country Hospital and later to UVM Medical Center for treatment.

The roadway was wet but clear of snow under overcast skies at the time of the crash.

While the cause of the accident has not been determined and speed has not been ruled out, police stated that impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor.

The investigation is still underway.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Sgt Drew at the Derby Barracks at 802-334-8881.
