Woman charged with assaulting trooper in Royalton

ROYALTON — A 65-year-old Alburgh woman was arrested late Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting a Vermont State Police trooper at the Royalton Barracks.

According to authorities, the incident occurred as troopers were releasing Carolyn J. Demers from protective custody to a family member around 11:18 p.m. During the process, Demers reportedly attacked one of the officers.

Demers was taken into custody and charged with assault of a protected professional.

She was cited to appear in Vermont Superior Court Windsor Criminal Division.

Following the arrest, Demers was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility, unable to post the required $500 bail.

The condition of the assaulted trooper was not immediately disclosed, and further details of the incident have yet to be released.

The case remains under investigation.
