WILBRAHAM — The Wilbraham Police Department on Tuesday night issued an update regarding the officer and suspect involved in a Jan. 20 shooting at a residence on Old Carriage Road.

Officer Cameron Prosperi, 29, who has been with the department for eight months following service with the Springfield College Police Department, remains in stable condition at a local hospital.

Prosperi was injured during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect while responding to a domestic threat call.

The suspect, identified as Michael Ortega, 53, is also hospitalized and in stable condition.

Due to his medical status, Ortega’s arraignment on charges of Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon has been postponed.

Previously reported, officers had responded to the scene around 8:20 p.m. on Jan. 20 where they encountered Ortega firing from inside the home.

During the altercation, other residents of the house escaped through a second-floor window and were helped to safety by officers.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and involves the Wilbraham Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.
