Essex man arrested for larceny from motor vehicle

ESSEX — A man was arrested early Monday morning after police responded to a reported larceny in progress.

Essex Police Department officers were dispatched to Pioneer Street at approximately 12:49 a.m. following a call about a theft from a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers located a suspect matching the caller’s description.

Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of Jack Hurlbut, a 27-year-old Burlington resident.

Hurlbut was found entering vehicles and in possession of stolen property.

Following his arrest, Hurlbut was processed and issued a citation to appear at Vermont Superior Court – Criminal Division in Chittenden County later that same day.

He is facing charges of Petit Larceny from a Motor Vehicle and Violation of Conditions of Release.

Cpl. Beaulieu of the Essex Police Department reminded the public to lock their vehicles and secure valuables to prevent similar incidents.
