OAK BLUFFS — A 33-year-old West Tisbury man was arrested late last night after his vehicle was found crashed into the beach dunes on Sea View Avenue, according to the Oak Bluffs Police Department.

Police and fire-EMS personnel responded to the scene at approximately 10:58 p.m. following reports of a 2002 Toyota Camry that had been driven erratically.

A citizen had reported the car as swerving and traveling at low speeds around 10:18 p.m. on New York Avenue, but initial searches by officers did not locate the vehicle.

Upon arrival at the crash site between the bridges on Sea View Avenue, emergency responders found the driver, who had been the sole occupant of the vehicle.

He was evaluated by EMS at the scene and declined further medical attention.

Following an on-scene investigation, the man was arrested and charged with operating under the influence (OUI) of alcohol, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and a marked lanes violation.

In accordance with departmental policy, the Oak Bluffs Police Department does not release the names of defendants prior to their arraignment.

The suspect is expected to appear in court to answer to the charges.
