MANCHESTER — In the early hours of Jan. 19, the Manchester Police Department apprehended three New York men following a burglary at the local Brooks Brothers store and a subsequent pursuit that extended into nearby Shaftsbury.

Officers responded to an alarm at the store, located at 460 Depot St., at approximately 2:02 a.m. and discovered a broken window and a large quantity of missing merchandise.

A witness reported seeing a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity, which later led Sgt. Bravata on a chase southbound on US RT. 7.

After failing to stop for police, the suspects’ vehicle was eventually halted by tire deflation devices with assistance from the Bennington Police Department.

The three men, identified as Gaston Jesus Moraga Bazo, 57, Santiago Andres Ortega Torres, 56, and Alejandro Casdiscadis, 45, were taken into custody on Underpass Road.

Authorities estimate that roughly $21,458 worth of goods were stolen.

The accused were held at Marble Valley Correctional Facility with bail set at $25,000 each, facing multiple charges including burglary and eluding police.

They are due in Vermont Superior Court, Bennington Criminal Division, on Jan. 22 at 12:30 p.m.

The Manchester Police Department credited the Winhall Police Department and the Bennington Police Department for their aid in the arrests.
