SUNDERLAND — A snowmobile accident on Kelley Stand Rd near Bridge #3 sent a 66-year-old Connecticut man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Tuesday evening.

The Vermont State Police-Shaftsbury Barracks responded to the incident around 5:38 p.m. after receiving reports of the accident.

John P. O’Connor was operating his 2014 Ski-doo Renegade on snow trails when he lost control of the vehicle, traveling at about 30 mph, and collided head-on with a tree before sliding down a small embankment.

The Arlington Fire Department and Arlington Rescue Squad assisted Vermont State Police in locating and attending to O’Connor, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

He sustained injuries to his lower body, and the snowmobile suffered front-end damage.

O’Connor was transported by the Arlington Rescue Squad to Albany Medical Center for further medical evaluation.

The authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
