Chester man faces DUI #5, drug charges after Dummerston traffic stop

DUMMERSTON — On Jan. 17, at approximately 10:03 a.m., Vermont State Police apprehended a 44-year-old Chester man on multiple charges, including his fifth DUI offense, during a traffic stop at the intersection of Middle Road and U.S. Route 5.

Julio Fuentes-Mercado was pulled over after a trooper from the Westminster Barracks noticed a motor vehicle violation.

During the interaction, the trooper observed signs of impairment and proceeded to arrest Fuentes-Mercado for driving under the influence.

Further investigation led to the discovery of less than 2.5 grams of cocaine, resulting in additional charges for possession.

Fuentes-Mercado, who also had a prior criminal driving license suspension and was in violation of conditions of release, was processed and subsequently released with a citation to appear in Windham County Superior Court on March 26 at 8:30 a.m. to respond to the charges.
