Dover schools resume normal activities after nearby police negotiation

DOVER — A local elementary school was placed on lockdown this morning as police negotiated with an individual experiencing a mental health crisis in a nearby home.

At approximately 8:35 a.m., Garrison Elementary School followed protocols initiated by the Dover Police Department, ensuring all students and staff remained inside the building.

The lockdown was a precautionary measure while officers engaged with the individual in question.

The Dover Middle School Resource Officer quickly responded to the scene to provide assistance during the incident.

Crisis negotiators from the Dover Police Department worked effectively to de-escalate the situation.

Authorities successfully resolved the incident, and the individual was safely transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and assistance.

The school was able to lift the lockdown and resume normal operations by 9:05 a.m. following the peaceful resolution.
