CABOT — A local man was arrested Saturday afternoon for domestic assault and cruelty to a child following an incident initially reported as a runaway juvenile, Vermont State Police said.

Russell Veroneau, 43, of Cabot, contacted authorities at 4:22 p.m. to report a runaway juvenile.

The child was found safe shortly thereafter.

Following the discovery, police took Veroneau into custody on charges of domestic assault and cruelty to a child.

He was processed at the Berlin Barracks and subsequently released with a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court on Monday at 12:30 p.m.

In line with their policy on privacy, the Vermont State Police did not release the names or any further details regarding the victims involved in incidents of sexual assault or domestic violence.
