Rutland woman arrested on outstanding warrant after traffic stop

RUTLAND — A local woman wanted on an arrest warrant was detained by police Thursday morning after being pulled over for speeding.

Fair Haven Police apprehended 46-year-old Rebecca S. Derusha after discovering she was a wanted person.

The arrest occurred on Jan. 4 at 9 a.m. on West Street.

Authorities stated that Derusha was stopped for a traffic violation, which led to the discovery of an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

The warrant was issued by the Rutland District Court when Derusha failed to appear for a scheduled court date on Aug. 30.

Derusha, who had been charged as a Fugitive from Justice, is wanted in New York State for a felony possession of stolen property charge.

Following the warrant’s instructions, she was taken into custody and transported to Rutland District Court.

The warrant stipulated a $10,000 bail.

Chief William Humphries, the investigating officer, confirmed that Derusha is now awaiting further legal proceedings.
