Manchester woman dies after shooting, man charged with manslaughter

MANCHESTER — A woman was pronounced dead following a shooting incident at an Amherst Street apartment on New Year’s Eve, prompting a swift response from local authorities.

Officers arrived at the scene around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting.

There they found 26-year-old Sophia Bonfiglio with an apparent gunshot wound.

She received immediate medical attention and was transported to Elliot Hospital, where she was treated for several hours before being pronounced deceased at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday, Jan. 2, to determine the precise cause and manner of Bonfiglio’s death.

In connection with the shooting, Tyler Cook, also 26 and a resident of the same apartment, has been taken into custody.

Cook faces a manslaughter charge, accused of recklessly causing Bonfiglio’s death by discharging a firearm.

He is expected to be arraigned at the Hillsborough County Superior Court, Northern District, on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The Manchester Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
